Where is everybody at?

Because I'm an inquisitive chap, may I ask that each person who visits the blog for the first time leaves a comment mentioning where they are? Just the town/city and country to give me an insight as to where my blog is reaching. If you have visited before, would you leave a message anyway? (just the once)

Please feel free to leave a comment

coming along nicely

Just a short entry to say that the two Triarch Stalkers are almost complete. Just the Triarch Praetorians, the weapon mount and the weapons to paint.

Insert witty title here!

Finally the Overlords are finished and the barge variants are complete. Considering that I started the barges on the 14th of August it has taken some time to get these models done, granted I did take a lengthy break due head melting, but they have still taken several hours to complete. I think they have probably taken around 40 hours to complete. Each Overlord has taken about three hours of work, and they’re identical(ish)
DSCF0029
So a quick run down on the Overlords, as I’m rather chuffed with how they’ve come out.
DSCF0032
Each model has six separate parts, front and back torso, the back half of the torso includes the cloak, legs with a front piece of the cloak (I’m sure it has a proper name), head, right arm with warscyhte, and two left arms, one with a resurrection orb and one that is holding onto the ornate hand rail of the Catacomb Command Barge.
DSCF1269
The first stage was to drill small holes, (3mm width) in the underside of each foot and the glue a magnet into each hole. Whilst the leg magnets were setting I put the torso halves together, since that need time to set I checked over the barges for any area I had missed. Once the torso was set I drilled a recess in the left arm and fixed a magnet in place. The tricky bit with the magnets is making sure that the polarities are different otherwise the whole plan is ruined. To overcome the issue of polarity I put two magnets in each recess and marked the outer facing with black paint, the marked side would be the one that would be glued to the part. Since both left arms have a small ball which sits in the shoulder socket the model required a slight modification by removing most of the end of all four left arms, making sure that I had the angles right and the arms would sit in a natural pose I snipped off each end. This was more important for the arm that would be fixed to the hand rail as it will be holding the Overlord in place on the barge and therefore the angle for that arm had to be spot on so that the model would be stood upright and not at some freakish angle. Once all that was done I drilled the bases for the Overlord to be place on when being used as an infantry model. I put a lump of modelling putty on the underside of each base and pressed the legs down so that the base magnets would be sunk to the right level on the base. When the putty had set the magnets were glued in place.

With all the magnets done it was time to paint the models. Starting with an undercoat of black for the whole thing I painted the legs, arms, torso and head with Chainmail. I left the crest on the head black and the ornate cloak black and they were painted with antique gold and then used Golden Griffon dry compound to drybrush the cloak and crest, both areas were then given a very subtle drybrush with Necron Compound to highlight the edges.

The wiring just under the chest was given a wash of red ink on one and blue on the other, the dynasty symbol on the chest was picked out with Scorpion Green, finally the eyes were given a spot of red ink. What I haven’t done with this model is given it any form of aging through the use of washes, glazes or shades. The reason for this is that I wanted the Overlord to look as though it has been well maintained during its millions of years in stasis and has awoken in a near pristine condition. Since the Overlords are the at highest level of the Necron hierarchy I feel that they, would have been held in the highest regard and every measure would have been taken to assure a full restoration when roused from stasis.

So with the barges complete I will start on the triarch Stalkers which I hope will not take as long as the barges.

Almost there

The Barges are complete, the Overlords are almost finished, I just need to paint the warscythes. The plan for magnetically mounting the Overlords has worked much better than I thought it would. Plus the Overlord models look fantastic, even if I do say so myself. Once the warscythes are painted and in place I will post pictures. The Annihilation Barge/Catacomb Command Barge models have been the most time consuming models I have ever put together, hopefully the Triarch Stalkers will be a little easier.

Oh alright then…

I know I said that the photos would go up tomorrow, but I hope that there’s a regular reader of this drivel that is thinking to themselves “I don’t want to wait until tomorrow, I’d like to see them now.”
So here are some pics of the most recent work. TA DA!

Just a quickie (ooer)

The last few nights, save for Tuesday due to a rather enjoyable Firefly evening and Thursday due to a gaming evening, I have been making progress on the Barges. The main build is complete and the pilot and gunner are in place and just need their arms attached. The main guns are finished after a drybrush of chainmail. With just the pilot and gunners arms to drybrush I have made a start on the Overlords. So far I have magnetised the base and left arms for both. This will allow the Overlord to be either mounted on the barge using one left arm as an anchor point as the arm will be attached to the hand rail which plugs into the model, and because the base has two small magnets that line up with magnets in the feet of the Overlord model it can be attached to the base and the second left arm, which is holding a resurrection orb, can be attached for when the lord is on foot.

Photos of the models will be posted tomorrow as I want to get the Overlord undercoated and start painting it

Another update

I have continued to work on the barges, I think they’re going to be hard work. Once the main bodies have gone together there’s a lot of small components the make up the rest of the model, putting it all together looks like it may be a little time consuming, but oh well, they have to be done and I’m looking forward to getting them finished so that I can move onto the rest of the kits. When Project Necron is finished I may start on the Skaven for Warhammer Fantasy Battles. I already have an idea of how I’m going to paint the majority of the models, 80 clan rats, but I don’t plan to rush through the Necrons in order to get to them.

Anyway enough chat, here are some picture of the work so far.

The last few pictures show the twin linked telsa destructor in place, the mount isn’t painted yet. I’m really pleased with how the recessed lines have come out, I’ve used Scorpion Green for them on both models, for some of the other models I may use a different colour for those areas, the idea behind why the lines are painted that way is to give the impression of the power within the machine.

A little update

Finally got back on to painting the barges, the sub assemblies have been detailed and are almost ready to build, the on to the finicky bits. Photos of the work to date will be posted tomorrow.

HUZZAH!
