Oh they are serious butt kicking machines of death

ten Immortals have now been added to the Necron collection, with the way things are going I could get my first game in with them before the end of the year. If I forego the addition of Flayed Ones then there’s a chance that I may get a game in with them as early as the next gaming evening. I have fifteen plastic models to paint, five of those will be made as Lychguard the other ten will be Triarch Pretorians.

Way back at the start of this project when I listed everything that was needing to be painted I mentioned that there was a secret model the was going to be included in the collection. Without wanting to give too much away the model will be a conversion of a non 40k model, but as a treat for the followers of this blog I can give you a sneaky peak of a part of the model.

Hunters from hyperspace

Five Deathmarks are complete, they were a pain in the rear end because the right arm is moulded holding the rifle which has the left hand attached. The problem was that the left arms didn’t fit too well. I stuck with and after much swearing and over coming the strong compulsion to throw the models across the kitchen the Deathmarks are finished.
The edges of the bases have been painted since the photos were taken and they now have nice black edges, huzzah.

Death comes zooming

On Saturday I made a start on three Tomb Blades, compared to the wraiths and the spyders they are a little more complicated to build due to the optional extras, like shield vanes which have no proper connecting sections at all so when they are put on a model it is pretty much stick ‘em on and leave the model alone for a few hours. They were also quite annoying to paint, I opted to build as much as possible on them, this was a mistake. I now realise why I recommend painting as much as you can separately before completing the build. Anyway the completion of the Tomb Blades means that all the vehicles are done, finished, huzzah!
Because all the vehicles are done it means that I can move on to the infantry, double huzzah, the first infantry models that are on the go are five Deathmarks, nasty sniper types that can select an enemy unit and hunt them down needing only 2+ to hit them, plus they have the Marksman special rule which means that any to hit rolls of 6 means that I can choose which enemy model takes a successful wound.
So first up are the photos of the Tomb Blades, then the first stage of the Deathmarks.

Incy wincy Canoptek Spyder tore you into little pieces!

Oh yes indeedy there is now two complete Canoptek Spyders, in the game they a heavy support option and a unit generally comprises of one or two Spyders. They were started on Sunday 28th October and finished on the 1st November. Work that I’m particularly pleased with is the Gloom Spheres and the little gun type things that are mounted on the underside of the beasts. The gloom spheres were given a coat of dark green in then a coat of Moot Green, a layer of Goblin Green, dry brushed with Moot Green and then the crystal sections were coloured with dark green ink. The same method was applied to the green areas on the small guns. What doesn’t show in the photos is that the supporting arms for the spheres were given a wash with Nuln Oil

Once dry they were placed on the model and the the various fabricator claws were added. There are differences between the fabricator claw load out for no other reason than because I can.
Anyway, here are some photos of the Spyders. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it. the photos aren’t particularly brilliant, this is my fault and not down to the camera. I haven’t had it long and I still don’t know how to work it properly, I need some lessons!

Still on the wraiths

The second set of three Canoptek Wraiths are coming along well. Not as quickly as I was hoping but that's down to a lack of time and other stuff taking priority. I have finished the bases for them and they have had some of the slate fragments put on plus I've added a skull from a box of Vampire Counts skeletons that have been laying around for a few years. The skulls were undercoated white before being given a base coat of bleached bone. Once the base coat had dried each skull was given a wash with Gryphonne Sepia and when that had dried they were dry brushed with bleached bone and fixed to the base. The only thing left to do is attach the main bodies to the bases, paint the close combat weapons and finally paint the ranged weapons.
Although adding an extra box of Wraiths has added extra time to the project, I really think it's worth the time and as I was painting them the other night I looked over at the pile of boxes and noticed how much it has shrunk since I started the project. It seems that there is an end in sight, it may still be a few weeks away but it's definitely there and I'm really starting to look forward to taking the models to the shop and playing my first game with them.

Ooh, I have a Stalker!

Triarch Stalkers that is, and there’s two of them. The underslung weapon mount has been magnetised, admittidly not as well as I’d hoped because the magnets haven’t taken to the glue very well so the magnets have a tendency to break off. If this becomes too much of a problem I will fix the two most lethal weapons in place and be done with it.
